Trip Boats are operated by The River Stour Trust
The morning of 05 April 2008 bought sunshine and clouds for the official launch of 3rd Sudbury Sea Scouts new safety boat; “Kingfisher”. The Town Mayor, Mr Peter Goodchild, made his speech inside the Scout Headquarters, Quay Lane, Sudbury before moving out to the slip way to shake the champagne bottle over Kingfisher whilst onlookers enjoyed a glass of champagne and canapés.
The Sea Scouts spent last year organising many varied events, including bag packing at Waitrose, table sales, parties, sponsored events, barbeques and generous donations to raise the £18,000 needed to purchase the safety boat. The last £1,000 was raised through the Festive party in December 2007, and so the new Valiant DR520 with it’s Suzuki DF70 and array of safety equipment was ordered. It was manufactured in Portugal and then delivered to Seamark Nunn in the UK, where it was fitted out, before being collected in March 2008.
3rd Sudbury Sea Scouts would, once again, like to thank all of those people who supported them in this project including: Prolog, Sudbury Town Council, The Rotary Club, Fortnightly Tea Dancers, EDF Energy, Project 7, Trinity House, Sudbury Talbots, Waitrose and their customers.
