Upstream of Stratford St Mary-August 2007

The River Stour Trust Sudbury to the Sea (S2C) event was held over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of September 2007.

An annual fund raising, publicity and river access event, this year attracted just over 200 craft with 330 people taking to the water to enjoy what turned out to be  very warm and sunny weekend.

Thanks must first go to those volunteers who again gave up all or part of their weekend to ensure the event was managed and staffed effectively and safely. Volunteers this year helped with car parking, tea coffee and bacon rolls, registration, operating Cornard and Dedham lock, assisting with some of the more challenging portages and lunch stops, camp fire, drinks at the end of each day and many other tasks unseen by the entrants. The volunteers came from the River Stour Trust membership including several crew from the trip boat operations at both Sudbury and Flatford, Sea Scouts from Sudbury, family and friends. If you would like to help with this event next year please contact us.

The Granary compound was made available the Friday evening before the event to allow boats to be unloaded and stored overnight ready for the following morning start. We would like to ask more entrants to consider this next year as it eases the pressure on the car park on the Saturday morning.

The event started at just after 7.30 on the Saturday morning with the volunteers arriving to open the compound, man the registration and very importantly putting on the kettle and making some bacon rolls. (we sold out this year!!)

Once registered the craft started to leave around 9.00am and headed down stream to Cornard Lock this year manned by RST volunteers and Sea Scouts from Sudbury.
